Over the last year or so, you might have heard rumours of an impending ‘Padfone’ from Asus (video). An initially confounding combination of a phone, a tablet and a ‘laptop’. Asus have had a long-running line of Transformer devices, combining a dockable tablet with a keyboard for a while now, which has been met with moderate success. The question is two-fold: How well will the components of this multi-pronged device work together?

Google Tablet? July possible release- will it be worth the wait.

The Verge reports Google is pushing back the tablet’s previously anticipated May release, in an effort to cut prices. Manufacturers are working to bring the $249 price tag down to $199 or less.

DigiTimes reports the lower price will help Google compete with Amazon’s Kindle Fire — which is now leading the 7-inch tablet market with its $199 model. It sold over five million units last quarter. The Barnes & Noble Nook Color Tablet — also running the Android operating system — is priced at $169 for the 7-inch touchscreen version.

By contrast, Apple is high-end, selling one of the most expensive tablets on the market with its lowest-priced 9.5-inch iPad (16GB Wi-Fi-only) costing $499.

The 7-inch Google Tablet will run on the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS with a Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor. The Verge mentioned reports speculating the delayed release could be due to Google’s nearly finished Android 5.0 Jelly Bean update, which Google could be waiting for before it releases its first tablet.

Once released, Google plans to sell its tablets through its own online store, according to last week’s WSJ report.

How to root Samsung Galaxy Note

Step 1: Download PDA.tar [Direct Download] and place it on your desktop for easy access later on.

Step 2: Download ODIN 1.85 [Direct Download]. This is the tool we will use to flash the pre-rooted kernel. Extract the .zip file’s contents using appropriate software (we recommend 7zip). Launch it.

Step 3: Turn off your Galaxy Note. Once it is completely shut down, press and hold Volume Down + Power/Lock buttons until you see a screen that asks you to press Volume Up to continue. Doing so will put your phone in download mode.

Step 4: Your smartphone (or is it a tablet?) will now be detected by ODIN.

Step 5: From ODIN, click on PDA and select PDA.tar file which you downloaded in Step 1.

Step 6: Click on Start to begin rooting procedure. Your device may reboot multiple times; this is normal behavior so there is nothing to be worried about.

Step 7: Once your device is rebooted for the final time, launch Android Market and search for SuperUser [Market Link] and install it.

If you followed the steps correctly, your Samsung Galaxy Note for AT&T/TELUS/Bell will now be rooted on Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread. Go ahead and check out cool root-only apps like Network Spoofer and WiFiKill.

LTE vs HSPA- synopsis

So what’s the big deal with LTE? In a word, SPEED. The LTE network is markedly faster than the HSPA+ network, both in regards to raw data rate and the latency or “ping rate” when surfing.
This refers to the time it takes to send a request to a server and get a response back. Web pages typically include hundreds of small images, each of which must be individually requested by the browser. Latency will slow down this process on each and every request.

DSL or cable internet connection have ping times in the 10 to 40 millisecond range, but with HSPA this goes way up to 80 to 200 milliseconds. On LTE you’ll typically see ping times in the range of 35 to 80 milliseconds. The difference between LTE and HSPA is often startling. Even if LTE had the same raw data rate as HSPA, it would still seem faster due to lower latency.

Signal penetration on the Rogers LTE network in Toronto is about equal to the 1900 MHz HSPA network. This isn’t surprising since LTE in Canada presently operates on 1700 MHz.
The usability of LTE far exceeds that of HSPA, especially in fringe coverage situations. While raw speed does degrade on LTE as the signal gets weaker, the latency remains remarkably consistent. HSPA on the other hand sees a marked degradation in latency right along with a drop in raw speed, making it difficult to use HSPA in circumstances where LTE still feels like its flying along.

LTE is a terrific data network and it beats HSPA hands down in virtually every situation. It’s faster and it’s snappier for web browsing. In day-to-day use it provides exceptional performance under conditions that leave HSPA gasping for breath.
